Frank Learner, Treasurer Trustee of The Community Foundation in Wales has been recognised in the Wales Volunteer of the Year Awards 2010 for his financial expertise that benefits the Foundation and community projects across Wales. The former Royal Air Force Officer has increased his involvement with the Foundation over the past year, and has been duly recognised for his commitment by the WCVA in the awards process.
On receiving his award for voluntary services, Frank said “It gives me the opportunity to encourage others to contribute to the community as and when they can. We probably all take from the community in some way, so giving something back all helps.”
Frank spent most of his working life in the RAF, his last role being treasurer of the service’s main grant making charity, previously working within the RAF audit and finance departments. He then used his financial expertise to set up Greengage Associates in 2005, providing financial management and governance services to the voluntary sector.
The Community Foundation is proud of Frank’s achievements, and having a trustee that can offer this professional service freely helps to keep the Foundation on the right track.
“Frank has a good deal of patients and has been able to provide excellent tutoring in the fundamentals of book keeping and financial administration to our staff. He is able to identify the ‘exam question’ and walk you through the solution. This allows the daily tasks of a small charity with a large responsibility for grant management across Wales to continue to run smoothly,” said Julie Ashton-Davies, Philanthropy Manager with the Foundation.
