The Foundation celebrated the launch of its latest initiative, The Fund for Wales, on the eve of St David's Day with a drinks reception in the House of Lords hosted by Baroness Prashar CBE and kindly supported by Rathbones.
The Foundation was very pleased that Secretary of State, the Rt Hon Cheryl Gillan MP joined us as keynote speaker to help launch the fund. The Secretary of State addressed the invited guests, passionate Welsh people living across the UK, stressing the positive role philanthropists can play in enabling charities and grass-roots projects to thrive in Wales.
As a unique long-term source of charitable funding the Fund for Wales will be supported by a community of donors whose gifts, no matter their size, will enable local people to achieve inspirational things in their communities.
Liza Kellett, Chief Executive of the Community Foundation in Wales, said, "The beauty of the Fund for Wales is that it's for everyone. Our ultimate aim is to connect people who care with the causes the matter. We hope that anyone who loves Wales, no matter where they live in the world, will feel an affinity with the campaign and see this as the perfect opportunity to give something back."
The Community Foundation in Wales was also delighted to announce at this event that HRH The Prince of Wales has agreed to become the royal patron of the Fund for Wales.
