Official Launch of the Wrexham Community Endowment Fund
The Wrexham Community Endowment Fund was launched on 3rd March 2011 at a private reception kindly hosted by Roger and Vanessa Graham-Palmer and supported by Rathbones.
Reverend Canon Mike West, Rector of St Giles, Wrexham was the initiator of this new Fund, agreeing to seed-corn it by transferring small and inactive dormant charitable trusts to the Foundation's stewardship. This relatively small endowment income will now support locally-run voluntary organisations, charities and projects which encourage, support and promote spiritual wellbeing and improve the lives of people with limited resources within the Borough of Wrexham.
At the launch event, Julian Rathbone, of event supporter Rathbones, paid tribute to the work of the voluntary and community sector, the philanthropists and clients who have shown 'philanthropy in action' across North East Wales.
The work of transferring the charitable assets was managed by the Foundation’s Associate Colin Evans, who paid tribute to the support of Peter Blore and the Rev.d Canon Mike West, who explained at the reception, “We’re delighted to be putting these charitable assets to excellent use to establish this unique Fund for Wrexham. And now we invite anyone with an interest in Wrexham to show their support for this community by adding their own donation into our Wrexham Community Endowment Fund.”
Liza Kellett, Chief Executive of the Community Foundation in Wales, said "We support some fantastic groups in North East Wales, to the tune of £323,000 last year alone. The Foundation has been managing a ten-year strategic grant programme of £650,000 for projects to help community cohesion in Wrexham. As this successful programme draws to an end, we want to ensure our continued support for North East Wales charities by promoting our services and in the creation of the new Fund for Wrexham.”
