Official Launch of the Gwent High Sheriffs’ Community Fund
The Gwent High Sheriffs’ Community Fund was officially launched on the 25th February 2010 with an evening reception in the Blake Theatre at Monmouth School. Formerly known as the Gwent Shrievalty Police Trust, the event signalled an exciting new chapter for High Sheriffs’ Fundraising in Gwent, with a new name for the trust, and a new home at The Community Foundation in Wales.
The event brought together supporters, beneficiaries, and other notable Gwent figures, including the Lord Lieutenant of Gwent and past, present and future High Sheriffs, to celebrate the positive impact that High Sheriffs’ fundraising has made in communities across Gwent and to look forward to a bright future, working in partnership with The Community Foundation in Wales.
The new Fund will continue to work with Gwent Police to support innovative and constructive initiatives that engage young people, enhance community safety, and help prevent and reduce crime. The event was generously sponsored by Rathbones.
Reflecting on the launch of the Fund, Stephen Hughes, High Sheriff of Gwent and Chair of the Gwent High Sheriffs’ Community Fund Grants Panel commented:
“We are proud to announce the creation of the Gwent High Sheriffs’ Community Fund. Building upon the strong foundations established by the Gwent Shrievalty Police Trust, the new Fund will continue to work closely with the Community Policing Teams throughout Gwent to support community initiatives that have a proven track record in helping youngsters realise their potential and reduce the incidence of anti social and criminal behaviour.
It is down to the generous support of our donors that we are able to fund these innovative and constructive initiatives and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our supporters for their contributions to our work, and welcome new supporters to share in our ambition of creating safer, more cohesive, communities throughout Gwent.”
Antony Lewis, Chair of the Community Foundation in Wales, was proud to be launching this new Fund at the Foundation, commenting:
“We’re delighted to be working in partnership with the Gwent High Sheriffs’ Community Fund. We recognise the pivotal role of the High Sheriffs in shaping the direction of the Fund and the impact that High Sheriffs fundraising has made in communities across Gwent over recent years. We now look forward to contributing our experience and expertise to further the excellent work that this Fund is carrying out through its support of crime prevention initiatives across Gwent.”
